Torbay Chess Club is a newly formed Chess Club within Torbay
and is an amalgamation of Torquay and Brixham Chess Clubs. The club is spearheaded by John Ariss, well
known local arbiter and organiser at various local chess clubs. Its aim is to firmly re-establish a chess club
within Torbay and create a club worthy of the size of area it represents.
The club offers the opportunity to play at various locations
throughout the Bay with club nights at Paignton on Mondays, Brixham on Tuesdays,
and Torquay on Wednesdays. However, the
main club night is Paignton on a Monday and newcomers to the club are
recommended to go to Paignton on a Monday.
The first club session will be held at Paignton on Monday 5th
December at Room 1, the Methodist Church, Palace Avenue, Paignton. The plan for the current season is to hold an
internal rated competition and to play a few matches with local clubs. Then in the following season the club will
enter teams in the Torbay League and DCCA Leagues depending on the makeup of the
club and the likely commitment.
There are no membership costs, you pay a £2 table fee on the
night at Torquay and Paignton, and nothing at Brixham. Club nights start at 7
p.m. and their locations are:
